A quick visit to the Swan Lake NSA this afternoon provided what may be a few of items of interest. The recent rains have once again flooded Lemmon Drive, causing a detour along the east side. Best route is to follow Military Road around.
The retention pond between the warehouses and the interpretive area had some Canvasbacks and because of the light, a small flock of unidentified swallows feeding above these waters.
Out on the surface of Swan Lake are hundreds of ducks of all species usually found here, American Avocets still in winter plumage, and just off the end of Jean Street, four immature Tundra Swans. The wind caused large waves, which the swans seemed to be enjoying biting into as they moved around feeding.
