On a visit to Diamond Pond this afternoon, my
daughter and I stumbled on a young Red-tailed
Hawk feeding on a coot on the grass at the
N end, a little back from the water's edge. It was
exceedingly tame, showing no concern at all at
our presence snapping photos a few feet away.
A month ago, in mid-November, I saw a young
Red-tailed feeding on a dead coot on the N side
of the pond. It was also very tame & is thus
very likely the same individual as today's bird.
A herd of upwards of a hundred coots has been
on the lawns the last few months, easy pickings
it would seem for a young hawk learning its
