The NBRC has completed its reviews of another packet of rarity submissions. As always, I will email all submitters with the results of the reviews on their submissions as soon as I can.
The NBRC webpage has been updated to include the results of the reviewed records, which can be seen by clicking the “View NBRC Records” button under the NBRC tab. In addition, the checklist (“Nevada State Checklist” button) and the review list (“Nevada Review List”) have been updated.
Of particular note is the addition of White-rumped Sandpiper to the state checklist and review list. This bird was found and photo-documented by Darlene Feener on 6/1/16 at Ash Meadows NWR. Congratulations to Darlene for this great find!
We also continue to make progress on our long-term goal of reviewing all available pre-committee documentation we can find. When the committee was formed in 1994, the bylaws prohibited reviewing any sightings that predated the committee formation. That prohibition was removed some years later, and we’ve been working very hard on those records during the last several years. For example, in the packet just completed, there were records for Black-throated Green Warbler, Corn Creek, 10/15/1978 (which was not endorsed), Brown Thrasher from Dyer, 5/25/1991 (endorsed), Baltimore Oriole from Indian Springs, 9/22/1996 (endorsed), Black-throated Blue Warbler from Corn Creek, 10/6/1070 (endorsed), Magnolia Warbler from the Las Vegas Wash, 10/20/1974 (endorsed), Blue-headed Vireo from Great Basin N.P., 9/26/1995 (not endorsed), Wood Thrush from Pahranagat NWR, 10/7/1976 (endorsed), and Yellow-throated Vireo from Corn Creek, 10/7/1989 (endorsed).
Note that many of the records we are reviewing from the pre-committee documentation are of species no longer on the review list (in fact, for the ones listed above, Brown Thrasher, Black-throated Blue Warbler, and Magnolia Warbler are no longer reviewable.) However, we continue to review any sightings for a species that was on the review list at the time of the sighting, as was the case for these thee species.
