Earlier this evening, a Western Screech Owl was observed in an opening of a broken-off tree branch, where one was observed somewhat regularly 2 or 3 years ago. One was observed in this same opening about a month ago over the course of a week or so, but hasn't been seen since until this evening. This location is a little over 0.4 miles along the trail from the Carson River Park parking lot. From the parking lot, walk through the first U-shaped pedestrian gate and just 75 feet after you walk through the second U-shaped pedestrian gate, look to your left in the first main line of trees about 60 feet from the trail. Here is a link to a photo of the same broken-off tree branch when an owl was in it over 3 years ago: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tecumseh517/8442905799/in/dateposted-public/ . A Barn Owl and a Great-Horned Owl also were observed making it a "three owl night".
