The entrance to the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve is off Galleria Drive. Take
the US95/I515 freeway to the Galleria exit 64B, go east and cross Boulder
Highway. The Preserve entrance will be on the north side of the road, follow the
driveway and signs to the parking lot and Visitors Center. The physical address

We had Ninety-two (92) species observed for the week of September 29 through October 5, 2014.
The migration of Warblers seems to have slowed, very few Wilson's or Yellow Warblers left,
Increasing numbers of Yellow-rumped Warblers, along with one or two Warblers of other species
popping in occasionally.
The following birds were seen and/or heard by staff and visitors and confirmed by staff
at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve east of Las Vegas:
Northern Shoveler (Numbers increasing)
Green-winged Teal (Numbers increasing)
Ring-necked Duck (Numbers increasing)
Bufflehead (1 hen, pond 4)
Common Merganser (1 hen, Pond 4)
Pied-billed Grebe - There are three babies on Pond 6 that hatched within the last 2 weeks. This is very late for Grebes to be hatching here.
Horned Grebe - Observed 10-1-14 by R. Michal and J. Taylor, Pond 5
American White Pelican (Flock of 6 on Pond 4)
Great Blue Heron
Northern Harrier (Males, females, juveniles)
Virginia Rail - Observed in the SE corner of Pond 9 on 10-2-14 by R. Michal
Black-necked Stilt (1 or 2 observed most days, the majority have left.)
Great Horned Owl
Red-naped Sapsucker - Located and photographed by Ed H., identity of bird confirmed, intersection of paths SW corner of Pond 3 / 4.
Northern Flicker (Red-shafted)
Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - Located at Visitor Center by staff member Christina.
Common Yellowthroat (male) Observed 10-1-14 by R. Michal on Pond 7 - Surprised to see any still here.
Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon's) (Numbers increasing)
Black-throated Gray Warbler (R. Michal, Pond 9, 10-3 and 10-5)
Townsend's Warbler (R. Michal, Pond 9, 10-4)
Savannah Sparrow - I saw a bird this morning that looked somewhat like a Vesper Sparrow but it was likely one of the very variable Savannah Sparrows. - R. Michal.
White-crowned Sparrow (Numbers increasing)
Dark-eyed Junco (Oregon) - Located by the Morosz's, Pond 3, ID confirmed.
