Virginia Lake, Reno, Washoe Co (10/2/14)
Wood Ducks. There were 5 of them--including an adult male--this afternoon, dozing in a tight group far out from shore near the N end. An unusual sighting. I've never seen more than a single Wood Duck at VL before, and that very infrequently.
There was no sign of the Sabine's Gull and I didn't see it yesterday either, so maybe it's left for good.
Eared Grebe. There were about a dozen scattered over the lake, the most since last year.
American Coot. Coot numbers have also started to buildup significantly--I counted 45-50 this afternoon, mostly close to shore. Should be easy pickings for any coyotes that might be in the neighborhood. ;)
