ah yes, the good ole bonham ranch.....out there in the middle of total smoke creek nowhere. somehow, on thursday afternoon, i found myself pulling up to the place for a look. nothing too exotic going on, but plenty of good solid nevada birding, for sure.
a pair of western kingbirds
an oriole female
western wood peewee
in the pond, one male cinnamon teal
four wilson's warblers
a common nighthawk, on the wing
i'd forgottten that the old place has burned to the ground and been scraped off. it's an improvement. and in the back, there's now a nice little place to soak your feet at the well head. the water is warm. not exactly a prime spot for a full soak, exactly, but certainly nice for dunking the old dogs for a minute and enjoying the solitude and scenery.
the distance to the ranch? from the save mart in spanish springs to the ranch, it's about 61 miles. heading out via the willows and the needles of pyramid lake.
