Early this afternoon (Sunday, May 25th), my wife and I ran into Dennis and Becca Serdehely and their friends Neil (sp?) and Karen while birding below the Upper Lake area at Pahranagat NWR. Later on, Dennis called me to say they were observing an adult male Baltimore Oriole in the small set of cottonwood trees at the south end of Middle Marsh. My wife and I got there as soon as we could but the six of us could not relocate the Oriole. Dennis's group did indicate that the Oriole did vocalize some and would lightly chatter while in the trees. Later this evening, my wife and I returned to the area after the heat of the day subsided and we could hear its chattering (more rapid and not as emphatic as a Bullock's), and my wife eventually saw it as it flew over her head down into the reeds of the adjacent wetlands. We will try to look for it again tomorrow morning and will report if successful.
