Early yesterday afternoon (Saturday, May 24th), my wife and I were near Boulder City so we stopped by the area where the Harris's Hawks nested for at least the last few years. This is in the area of Mendota, San Felipe, and Vaquero Drives. We looked a few times in early afternoon, went and ate a late lunch, and returned and looked some more without seeing any sign of the hawks. Eventually, my wife talked to the owner of the house where the hawks had nested and he indicated that he has not seen the hawks this year. We did note that a house is being constructed right next to the retaining wall which is where the hawks would sometimes perch and above which the nest was presumed to be located in previous years, and wondered if perhaps the construction activities scared the hawks off from nesting there this year. I was just curious if anyone has seen the Harris's Hawks in that area or elsewhere in the Boulder City area this year? Thanks!
