I've been traveling for the last week, but between those birds I've sighted
since I got back and those that Gisela saw while I was gone, it's been an
interesting week in Mogul.
Yard birds, not mentioning the usual species, include
Rufous hummingbird (male, only one day)
Anna's hummingbird (both male and female)
Calliope hummingbird (4 days, may still be here)
Black chin hummingbird (male and female, possibly 2 of each)
Bullock's Oriole (since April 26)
Hooded Oriole (as recently as May 3, but only once have we seen both
orioles the same day)
Lazuli bunting (id isn't 100% confident)
The White-crowned sparrows apparently left the same day I left (Apr 29),
but we still had two Golden-crowned sparrows lingering today.
At the Great-horned owl nest in the neighborhood I saw two owlets today
next to one adult. There is also an active Osprey nest near the Truckee
The Wild Turkey was sighted at least once in the past week. I heard a
third-hand rumor that it got here by hitching a ride on a camper from the
central valley of California.
Mogul is along I80, 7 miles west of downtown Reno.
