Oasis Valley, my yard, north of Beatty, Nye Co. -- Migration is suddenly heating up after a long winter slow period.
Black-chinned hummingbird -- first arrival February 23, a female. Then a male the next day, and present this morning.
Rufous hummingbird - colorful male arrived today, causing fighting at the feeders.
House finch - started singing last week.
Yellow-rumped warbler- a wave coming through February 23.
Rock wren - singing this week.
Loggerhead shrike - singing.
Northern (red-shafted) flicker
Eurasian collared dove
Black phoebe - not seen most of the winter, arrived February 23.
Mallard - pairs along the Amargosa River in pools
Golden eagle - one soaring over the creosote desert.
Dark-eyed (Oregon) junco - present most of the winter.
Western meadowlark- beautiful singing along the Amargosa River meadows at dawn this morning.
