I just returned from a short trip to Lemmon Valley. Nothing remarkable
duck-wise; there were lots of Northern Shovelers and Ruddy Ducks, along with
Cinnamon Teal, Gadwall, Northern Pintail, Mallard, and 2 Bufflehead. I counted
42 Eared Grebe.
On the dike of the last pond, there were 4 Black-necked Stilts, 6 Avocets (plus
another 10 out on the lake), several Killdeer, 4 Least Sandpipers, 2 or 3
Western Sandpipers, and 3 Dunlin (looking very spiffy).
Swallows would come and go; Barn, Northern Rough-winged, and Tree. At least 40
Yellow-headed Blackbirds, all males that I could see, plus Red-winged Blackbirds
and Brewer's Blackbirds. I heard a Virginia Rail and a few Marsh Wrens.
