There were two American White Pelican's on Mountain Falls Golf Course just before dusk on the back pond not far from my home last night. I was out looking for the Brown Pelican's I saw earlier this week. I noticed that the one American White Pelican had something green on it. I wrote to Je Anne Branca with Red Rock Audubon in Las Vegas to find out what the green tags might be and she wrote me back to say they were banding tags. Tonight if they are in the same place I will try to get the numbers on the one bird if they are still there. You can only see the tags clearly when the bird is out of the water. I could not see them at all when they were swimming. Because the second American White Pelican was on the other side of the first, I could not see if it had tags. There are at least 5 ponds I am aware of on Mountain Falls, so far the Pelicans have been seen by golfers on all the ponds at one time or another in the past couple of weeks.
Mountain Falls is an active golf course. It is off 160 in Pahrump, Nevada. You can walk on a dirt road in areas that are adjacent to the golf course, but you cannot go on the course itself while walking.
