On my way back from the Pendleton CBC this morning,
I took a slightly roundabout route through Elkins and
then up Route 92 for variety and in hopes of better roads
than the way I went down.
I was greatly surprised to see a couple of gulls flying
around downtown Belington at the bridge over the
Tygart Valley River. Upon investigation, there were
3 Ring-billed Gulls. Seemed quite unusual to me,
though those who live in the area feel free to correct
Also present were 62 Canada Geese and 5 Mallards.
The Pendleton CBC soldiered on through 3-4 inches
of snow all day long, but the 5 teams plus feeder-
watchers found some very good birds. I'll leave it
to Fred Atwood, count compiler, to report the results
when all the data are in. Just a hint--at least 3 species
new to the count, plus a couple of others that have
been seen only a couple of times in the 32-year
history of the count.
