Walking my dogs on a cold windy afternoon I saw a group of about 6
Eastern Towhees foraging with about the same number of White Throated
Sparrows. The Towhees were mostly males, at least 1 female. I don't
usually see them in that large a group.
I had one male Towhee at my feeder today, along with White Throats,
Cardinals and the usual gang of Chickadees, Titmice and a couple White-
breasted Nuthatches. There are two or three Mourning Doves and one or
two goldfinches, as well.At the moment, they're all feeding like crazy
in front of the storm and a really cold night. A Downy Woodpecker
just served up a reminder that I've been remiss in refilling the suet
Yesterday afternoon there was a beautiful Red-Shouldered Hawk perched
in a tree on the grounds of Spring Valley High School, and I saw a
pair of Red-tails soaring over I-64 between exits 11 and 15.
Good birding -
