This morning I found an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL at Crystal Reservoir
on Ash Meadows NWR. The bird was resting on the east shore with 42
California Gulls and 3 Ring-billed Gulls. Photos are available here:
Like other Lesser Black-backed Gulls found in Nevada this one seems to have
a rather massive bill. I've seen only Chris's somewhat distant photos of
the LBBG found 2 weeks ago at Lake Mead, which was also had an unusually
large bill, but this is pretty clearly not seem to be the same bird.
Shorebird numbers are improving with 14 Long-billed Dowitchers yesterday, A
Dunlin, and 13 Avocets on Wednesday.
