I went this morning to Lake Mead at the Boulder Beach area to see if I
might be able to find the possible Yellow-billed Loon. I drove down the
main road/ramp to the barriers then drove north as far as I could go before
walking several hundred yards. The morning (8AM) was quite windy and cold.
Due to the wind there were a lot of waves deep enough so the Coots and
various other birds would often disappear below the crests of the waves.
As a result it was sometimes challenging to bird the lake. I was able to
check the area from the northernmost end of Boulder Beach down south all the
way to the Las Vegas Boat Harbor Marina. I never was able to locate
the Loon even after the wind died down at about 10-10:15 AM. Even so it was
still a nice birding day, here is the complete list of birds I observed:
Bald Eagle (Adult, flying over the lake. I got a good look at it with 20
Herring Gull (Juvenile)
Domestic Goose (At Boulder Harbor, I imagine it is a resident there)
