I too spent some time today looking for a
Northern Goshawk in Pocahontas County. (I was acting
on a tip.) Unfortunately, my Goshawk never showed,
however, I did find three Mourning Warblers as a
consolation prize. Next weekend I'll be heading back
to Pocahontas County for round two.
On another note, the "fall" migration is
officially underway. On the way back to Morgantown
this evening, I stopped at the Upper Pleasant Creek
Wetlands Complex in Barbour County. On the mudflats
mixed in with the Killdeer was a small peep and a
probable Solitary Sandpiper. It couldn't ID them to
species because it was dusk and my scope was sitting
at home in my closet.
