Went exploring a little this weekend and ended up at McGill Canyon, located in the Jackson Mountains on the far eastern edge of the Black Rock Desert, or west of Winnemucca. Neat place! Great views of the basin surrounded by snowcapped mountains. Saw my first sighting of bighorn sheep (~6, growing horns) on the way out. Also a couple of herds of pronghorn and deer. There weren't a lot of birds in the canyon, but they're starting to pair up.
