It looks like much of the great birding area around Bridge
Street is about to succumb to the blade and the spade.
Since last fall there has been construction activity down-
stream and south of the Bridge Street Bridge and it now
looks as if the building will go right up against the river and
that it may be a matter of luck if those large cottonwoods
survive the activity.
Then, today to make matters worse for the area, there
appeared a public notice near the little orchard by the
hangout of the Acorn Woodpeckers last summer.
The gist of it seems to be that 35 acres of land north and
south of Bridge Street for 2000 feet from the intersection
with Hill Road, (the California/Nevada border), is in some-
ones plans for re-zoning and development commercially.
A meeting is scheduled in Reno City Council for April 14th.
I, for one, will miss it when gone!
