while driving from carlin to eureka, we came upon the barlow alfalfa farm, with pine creek meandering thru it. in addition to seeing two pairs of sandhill cranes , and at least 50 redtailed hawks on the power pole crossbars, we stopped to view a kettle of approximately 300 ravens. we saw another small kettle of ravens(15) driving past sunnyside(highway 318). in hiko we saw about 40 canada geese, in an alfalfa field;about 40 more at the upper pond at key pittman;(the lower pond was snow white with dry salerbatus..zero water) and then at the upper end of pahranagat's upper lake, another 40 canada geese. so it looks as if the winter weather is starting the big birds south.
