Red-shouldered Hawk, Virginia Lake, Reno, Aug 3rd, 2002
There was an immature Red-shouldered Hawk at Virginia Lake this morning
(10:30am, Aug 3rd, 2002). It was in the trees bordering the small horse
pasture on the west side of the outflow canal at the S end of the lake.
Apart from a single male Redhead there was little of interest on the lake
itself. A pair of Pied-billed Grebes was accompanied by a large chick.
There are still 3 active Snowy Egret nests on the island, each with 1-2
almost fully-grown chicks. Coots numbers are starting to build up again (I
counted about 45 this morning)
