On our way back from the Delmarva trip we stopped and took a look at the
Barnacle Goose in VA. I don't know if it is wild or not, but I think is
stands a good chance of being wild. I saw one, with several Canada Geese, in
a field along Route #35 in Putnam County, a couple of years ago. I
considered it to be an escapee. But this one is close enough to the coast
and there has been a lot of Barnacle Geese show up on the east coast this
winter (MA, NY, NJ, PA, VA, etc.). I doubt that this is coincidental.
Anyway, it is a beautiful bird.
I went up to the RCB Locks & Dam today and the six White-fronted Geese are
still there, and a Snow Goose is also with the flock of Canada Geese. The
Tundra Swan is still at Greenbottom.
